Five-minute Friday: Red

Flowers outside of our house

Flowers outside of our house

Today, I am linking up to Lisa Jo Baker’s Blog and participating in Five-Minute Friday! This means I wrote for 5 minutes straight on the topic of the day- just for fun, just for the joy of writing! So here’s my entry for today:

Red.

The color of the tropical flowers outside my new orange house (that I am learning to love, despite its small size and the fact that everything in it stays moist most of the time).

The color of the crimson-collared tanager I saw yesterday from the veranda (which I am learning to name when I see it, or even hear it).

The color of one of the walls in the staff house kitchen (a place that already holds recent memories of gathering around food, conversation, games, and wonderful people).

The color of the lipstick of Belizean women sauntering through town in their high heels (how do they do it on the uneven pavement?)

The color of my favorite hot sauce, Marie Sharp’s, spicy, yet flavorful (any meal is incomplete without it here).

The color of newness, brightness, fire, excitement, energy, activity, pulsing, beating, life.

Red.

STOP.
